Primary Education

The primary school stage is a constant challenge for students. One of the basic principles during this stage is to learn how to deal with day-to-day problems, and acquire the abilities and knowledge to resolve those which they will face when adult. At the I.B. all learning has to be, by necessity, connected to reality. Fifty percent of classes are carried out in English and the rest equally carried out in Catalan and Spanish.

In the Primary Education stage at Agora Princess Margaret International School, we offer a broad and balanced international curriculum. Students engage in transdisciplinary units of enquiry that enable them to make connections in their learning and gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. The cross-curricular themes are the distinguishing feature of the I.B. programmes. These allow the student to overcome the traditional limitations imposed on learning by subjects; discovering who we are, where we are in space and time, how we express ourselves, how the world works, how we organise ourselves and how we share our planet.

Multilingualism typifies primary education at our school, where the working languages are English, Spanish and Catalan. Every subject has its own working language

Our approach

At Agora Princess Margaret International School, personalised attention is reinforced by individualised tutorial action for each pupil and his or her family, creating a close collaboration between the school and the home.

The use of new technologies is present throughout the entire educational process, creating more attractive and effective teaching and learning models, adapted to the pupils’ different learning paces, aptitudes and interests.

Throughout the 6 years of Primary Education, pupils at Agora Princess Margaret International School work on study techniques and habits in depth and on the development of multiple intelligences, which encourage internationality, co-operative work, research, and critical thinking.

Agora Princess Margaret International School is an authorised school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) as a continuum IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy, a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.

Active participation, mastery of languages and the relationship with environments outside school are some of the features which are most worked on at this stage. The final aim is to mould students who are able to resolve actual problems in different contexts.

Classes become forums where ideas are debated and problems resolved fomenting their own self-esteem as well as the understanding and development of solutions. It is the age to begin to reason. Furthermore at the school we strive so that the children may place their individual interests at the group’s disposal.

Cross-curricular and inter-disciplinary work helps us to create the right atmosphere for all this to occur. Literature, geography, history, writing and arts are combined with mathematics, geometry and science to resolve the challenges formulated to the group.

Capable and competent students who are able to resolve all kinds of situations.
